故事发生在文革阴霾刚刚散去不久的一段时期。芭蕾舞演员白鹭（张伟欣饰）为了排演一出新的剧目而来到位于嫩江草原的芦苇荡体验生活。此行她还有另一个目的，那就是寻找失散长达八年之久的独生子。白鹭借住在以养鹤捕鱼为生的贺凤翥（王尚信饰）夫妇家，夫妇当年在文革期间收养了一个男婴小翔，如今小翔（杨通饰）成为夫妇俩难以割舍的慰藉。经过几次接触，白鹭惊讶地发现小翔就是自己的亲生骨肉，可是看到贺家夫妇对待儿子那份无私深情，她最终选择独自离开。 只不过母子的缘分并未就此中止，她们还将在接下来的人生路感受到爱和大自然的呼唤……。When Isabella Tree and her husband arrived at the rural estate they had inherited and saw the vast swathes of farmland that came with it, they immediately saw how sick the land was—entire habitats destroyed, bird and plant species gone extinct, fields saturated with chemicals.
