影片取材自意大利画家卡拉瓦乔著名画作《耶稣的诞生》真实窃盗案件。 讲述在电影公司担任秘书的女主，表面看似是一位平凡女职员，实际私下却是大编剧家的幕后主笔，正在着手新剧本的她，巧遇神秘退休警察，并从警察处意外获得画作失窃案的犯罪线索，她将失窃案中不为人知的情节完美重现剧本，没想到竟惹祸上身，让男友及母亲身陷险境，眼见所爱之人受到威胁，女主决定挺身而出，用编剧创意给以回击。。The story takes us back to 1889, in the wake of primary school teacher Louise Violet who is sent to a village in the French countryside to enforce Republic schooling (which is free, compulsory and secular).
