一个受着街坊欢迎的道观，内里的主持，既是道家师父，更是哲学智者—彭百川（郑少秋饰）。因缘际会，分别遇上张汉忠（麦子乐饰）、徐伯强（陈安立饰）、司马至全（游学修饰）三个年青人，并收为徒弟。四师徒分别破解街坊闹鬼问题，渐有名气。一天，第七行动组邀请了彭师父帮忙，凭着道家智慧和法术，四人接连破案，渐被认可为第七行动组的顾问，成为了第一代“诡探”！故事以1980年代香港做背景，当中更涉及中国民间传统迷信习俗，如盂兰胜会、冥婚、五狱成仙等，题材充满神秘色彩。。A troupe of struggling stage actors is rehearsing for a small-town production of a play. Everything seems to be as it should until one of the cast members turns up dead. In a panic, the others try to get out, only to find they are now locked in the theater with the killer! Which one of them committed the murder, and who will get out alive?。
