解放初期，一架无标识的运输机在飞抵广西桂林地区上空时坠落在凌云寨附近，因机内含有国民党意图破坏新中国政权的绝密文件。我军驻广西183团副团长廖志刚与政委项少军负责调查该事件。凌云寨处偏远山区、地势险峻、人员混杂。调查中廖志刚与土匪帮派及国民党残余势力在凌云寨进行了艰苦卓绝的战斗。而身为共产党员的廖志刚得到了当地百姓的大力协助，最终找到并破译了绝密文件，破坏了国民党残余势力的阴谋，铲除了土匪帮派的势力，赢得了苗疆圣女杨阿英的敬佩和爱慕。。丽莎和丹尼这对好友同为失眠所苦，总是和彼此聊天到深夜。两人一起经历各种古怪又奇妙的惊喜事件，感情也日益加深。。Plebs is described as "a thoroughly modern comedy in an ancient setting."
